Question about smoke from exhaust!!

I have looked all over trying to make sure I didnt ask a question identical to someone else. I found a few guys that had similar problems but they were all from older bikes and seemed like their problem was...well, a problem. Im hoping mine isnt a problem.

Bike: 2011 gsxr 600 with 5800 miles.

Performance Mods: Yoshimura r77 full exhaust, K&N filter, pcV, driven 520 kit -1 +2

Problem: I have noticed this since I put the exhaust on the bike (approximately 2k miles ago). Sometimes when I let off after a kinda high rev (7k-9K) I get a small quick puff of white smoke out the exhaust. If the smoke is grey at all, it is very very light grey. Im not sure if it does this when the bike is cold, because I dont rev it when its cold, but it does it when its warmed up. I have only noticed it when its sitting in neutral, but a buddy said he noticed it a little bit when I let off after a hard acceleration.

I have read some post where people say that it might be coolant, but surely I dont have a head gasket issue already? Plus, I havent noticed a sweet smell, or any smell with the smoke.

It doesnt do it at all when idling, normal driving around, or all the time when I rev, just if I do it just right.

I baby the bike, get the oil changed every 2k miles, and keep it out of very high RPMs for the most part. I havent even touched the rev limiter on it.

Surely I dont have a problem like head gasket or ring issue....

HELLLPPP!!!!! :frown:

Thanks,

Kyle

Haha cookie cutter map. I like that . Yeah im using a map I downloaded off pc's website. I actually just switched the map today. I was running their map for the r77 full system like I have, but they recently came out with a map for a Two Brothers full system that is a little bit leaner than the yoshi map I had, so I switched to it.

So you dont think I have a problem? Your saying the white ish smoke could be I guess unburnt fuel, or extra fuel?

Thank you for the quick response.

I agree. I'd probably look at mapping first. With pc's you get different gains across the revs. Probably just a little extra off the back end. After 2k miles if it was a ring/gasket, the problem, I think, would have become more apparent. Just my. .02¢

Thank you for the response.

Im hoping thats all it is...my bike is my baby and im pretty OCD. When I noticed it, it bothered me lol.

Lets say yall are right, which would make sine, and im throwing quite a bit of fuel in during the hard throttle and then letting off which is keeping it from burning all the fuel I just dumped.

Is that hurting anything? There isnt a dyno ANYWHERE close to me at all.......

Any other input...??

Does anyone else have any input on this??

Hopefully stuff that will make me feel better!! Haha:Laughing:

Thanks,

Ultimately, I would see if a remap helps clean it up. You mentioned a new map for a 2bros? Try that. Try any other reliable map. If it still happens, I dont think it it something I would be overly worried about. Maybe just use some injector cleaner a little more often to make sure they stay clean. Again. . 02¢

Thanks for your input! I have thought about the auto tune, looked up some reviews and what not.

I have read almost just as many positive reviews as I have negative. Do you have any personal experience with the auto tune, or know anyone that has it?

Im sure someone on here does

I do not think you have a problem, it may be that it does not get ridden hard enough, especially if it does have a rich fuel map. When you do give it a rev it will blow crap out.

Watch almost any car take off hard and you will get exhaust smoke.

If you had a head gasket or rings problem then you would have overheating, oil consumption and spark plug fouling problems.

If you like to tinker with computer programs and your bike, PC auto tune will do the job for you, or get it tuned at a reputable shop/dyno.

I have no idea if mine smokes on hard throttle, to busy watching where Im going to look at the exhaust!

I dont think its a coolant issue. I have noticed it since I put the Yoshi system on, approximately 2k ish miles ago, and my coolant levels have stayed the same. I check my coolant levels every so often just to be safe.

This has nothing to do with the exhaust but when I purchased my used 07 GSXR 600 it smoked a bit when hitting the throttle and bogged down quite a bit under hard acceleration. Come to find out my filter looked like a sweater.... had a ton of trash in it and wasn't able to burn all the fuel. Once I changed the filter it stopped. I think what the people are telling you is spot on, just sounds like it is running a little rich.

Yeah, I just just sent the cookie cutter map im running to Jeffo at www.faic.cc and he said that DynoJet always makes their maps too rich. He is in the works of building me a custom map as we speak. Only $50.

Yea thats one of the biggest things that made me decide to give it a shot. His customer service is second to none. You should check out his site and read some of the testimonies.

www.faic.cc

His name is Jeffo, his cell number is on the site too.

Its sleeting here so it will be a couple of days before I can put it on but I will let yall know how it works out.

He even named the map Kyles gsxr model 1.
